What's Left of Rights? Freeman Seminar Featuring Christopher Roberts

Rights scholars and historians often study the explosive, episodic historical moments when a new rights paradigm emerges. But what happens before a particular right or set of rights is enshrined in law? In this talk, Professor Christopher Roberts draws upon history to suggest that today we are overlooking some of the most serious attacks on rights because so many present-day challenges are not simply attacks on rights, per se, but have expanded outwards to attacks on the preconditions for having rights in the first place.

Christopher N.J. Roberts is an associate professor of law and an affiliated faculty member of the Department of Sociology at the University of Minnesota. He brings an interdisciplinary law, sociology, and public policy perspective to human rights, international law, and legal history
