      Suffrage Saturday: Banners for Ballots

Women suffragists promoted their cause with witty and thought-provoking banners, both across the world and in Hennepin County. The Museums newest exhibit, "Votes for Women," includes replicas of some of the most striking banners used in Minnesota, with slogans such as "More Ballots Less Bullets" and "All this comes of teaching girls to read." Join us at 1:30 p.m. for a brief presentation by Augsburg professor and exhibit partner Jacqueline deVries, who will discuss why banners were so useful to suffragists and what types of messages they conveyed. Throughout the day, you can make a banner to match those you see at the Museum - or invent your own message for the present day! This program is part of Hennepin History Museum's "Suffrage Saturday" series, which explores the themes of womens suffrage through short presentations and hands-on activities. These programs are offered on the third Saturday of each month from November 2019 through June 2020. Ticket includes Museum admission.
