“There’s a healthy dose of refined torchy twang to her new batch of confessional, well-crafted pop, and she goes deeper into blues—of both slow-burning and countrified varieties…” -Nashville Scene

The country scene has no shortage of fresh faces, and one of its rising stars is Mindy Smith. Smith is on tour in support of her fifth album, a self-titled record released in May. Co-produced with Jason Lehning, the collection features 11 original compositions—seven of which Smith wrote with the remaining four as co-writes. Recorded in Nashville, the album features some of Nashville’s best players, including Bryan Sutton (guitar); Lex Price (bass); Ian Fitchuk (drums); and Joe Pisapia (guitar), Jason Lehning (guitar), and Dan Dugmore (pedal steel).

Mindy Smith was born and raised in Long Island, but moved to Knoxville TN in 1991. In the South, she soaked up the sounds of Appalachia and fell in love with acoustic, jazz and blues music. She moved to Nashville in 1998 to pursue a career in music and developed her unique vocal style, writing and acoustic skills while performing and singing at clubs and writers’ nights.

Smith won the 2000 Tin Pan South writers contest and signed a publishing deal with Big Yellow Dog Music in 2001. As the only new artist featured on the 2003 tribute album Just Because I’m a Woman: The Songs of Dolly Parton, Smith revived “Jolene,” and Parton appeared in the video as well. In that same year, after years of refining her craft behind the scenes, Mindy arrived fully-formed with her 2004 critically acclaimed debut, One Moment More, and its hit single “Come to Jesus.” Long Island Shores (2006) garnered still more raves from the critics: “Smith’s best songs sound like little miracles,” crowed USA Today. The following year, she brought that same level of excellence to My Holiday, which the New York Times hailed as, a “thoughtful collection from a great singer-songwriter who knows how to evoke the feeling of warm rooms on cold nights.” Smith released her fourth album, Stupid Love, in 2009.

Israeli singer/songwriter Rosi Golan joins Smith for her show at the Dakota. Critics have fallen in love with Golan’s folk-pop sound and sweet lyrics. Her songs have been featured in several hit TV shows, including the “Vampire Diaries”, “Grey’s Anatomy,” and “The Ghost Whisperer”.

”Given that her burgeoning reputation is showing little sign of relenting there may not be many more opportunities to see Rosi Golan on such an intimate stage as this. It would appear to be only a matter of time before this Israeli born singer-songwriter makes a deserved name for herself – and her sultry live shows only add weight to that belief. Influenced by such candid lyricists as Norah Jones and Ray Lamontagne, Golan leaves little to the imagination with her own intimate style of writing. Her chic, sensual vocal lends itself perfectly to a collection of personable songs that can arouse and delight audiences in the here and now yet still resonate long after.”
